Senior product design inside product teams
Most of my career has been spent inside product teams rather than handing work over the fence: at PwC on a tax management platform for large corporate clients, at Crowdbotics across 15+ products as senior designer and product manager, and as lead designer at Directable. I take ownership of a product’s UX and UI and work directly with product managers, developers and stakeholders.
What this involves
- 01Ongoing UX and UI design for new features and improvements
- 02Design leadership: priorities, reviews and a clear direction
- 03A design system the whole team can build with
- 04Research and testing with real users when a decision needs it
- 05Hands-on work inside the team’s rhythm: planning, reviews and developer handoff
Where I’ve done it
- 01PwC: senior UI/UX designer on an enterprise tax platform
- 02Crowdbotics: senior designer and product manager across 15+ products
- 03Directable: lead UI/UX designer on a web-based digital signage platform

Justin P. · Stock trading analytics platform · September 2024“Florin was great to work with. He is very patient & understanding as the process of trying to figure out what you want for a design is an iterative process. His knowledge about what is good for the user & what will work for the developer or not is wonderful guidance to have. He will be a great choice for your next project.”

Questions
What does an embedded product designer do?
Works inside the product team over time instead of on a one-off project: joins planning and reviews, owns the design of the product and keeps the design system and handoff in step with what developers build.
How do you work with product managers and developers?
In the same channels and rhythm: shared priorities, design reviews before development, and handoff with components, states and notes developers can build from directly.
What does design leadership look like day to day?
Setting design priorities with product, reviewing work against the design system, making the case for research when a decision needs it, and keeping the product consistent as more people design and build it.
